Dutch Riders Reign in Vidauban

22-05-2013

Led by Laurens van Lieren, Dutch dressage riders ruled in Vidauban, France. Van Lieren won all three of his classes in the CDI3*. Two of his wins were astride the Gelder keur mare Tyara (keur sport-dres s.Farrington out of Jolimba pref prest sport-dres by Bazuin, breeder: K. Christiaanse of Middelburg), and one was aboard Ulysses la Haya (Gribaldi out of Glenda keur by Ulft, breeder: F. Verhagen of Veldhoven).

In the Grand Prix Special on Saturday, Van Lieren rode Hexagon's Welnetta to third place; and on Sunday, he secured second place on the mare in the CDIO3* Freestyle. The winner of both the GPS and the Freestyle was Sweden's Minna Telde with Don Charly. In the Grand Prix CDIO3*, Van Lieren ended second with Welnetta, after Sweden's Tinne Vilhelmsom-Silfven and Divertimento posted the winning score.

Chef d'equipe Wim Ernes seemed very content at the conclusion of the show on Sunday afternoon: "I think we can be very pleased because Laurens convincingly won all three classes at the CDI 3* level, and we also won other classes. In addition, we won the team competition. Ernes also commented on the Freestyle: "Laurens and Welnetta performed a very expressive test, and Welnetta's movement was very powerful. There was a small mistake at the start of the one-tempi's, but Laurens should be very content nonetheless. Stephanie Peters lost a lot of points because Unlimited got his tongue over the bit in the Freestyle. It was really unfortunate, also because the combination was very strong in the Grand Prix Special. Technically speaking, Katja Gevers had her best ride of the past three days in the Freestyle, but that wasn't reflected in the score. She really deserved more than the 67% plus she received."

The KWPN stallion Valeron (Sandro Hit out of Naomie ster prest by Houston, breeder: A.J. Beerens of De Moer) was among the horses competing in the Grand Prix for the Freestyle on Friday. Under his new rider, Jaime Amian of Spain, he finished fifth (65.57%).
